As a student, I am a big lover of highstreet/drugstore make-up (can’t be affording all the pricey products). Despite this, I don’t ever feel hard done by, or think higher end products would do a much better job. To proclaim my love for affordable make-up, I decided to bring this tag back into the blogosphere and tag some of you guys!
1. What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand overall?
I have a place in my heart for so many brands, for lip products Revlon are the one, Bourjois kill it on the base make-up and Rimmel & Soap and Glory are good all round brands.
My indisputable favourite has to be The Body Shop. You guys are probably sick of my constant raving about their products but I just can’t help myself. They smash it when it comes to skincare, pamper essentials and I have loved the effect of every one of their makeup products I have tried. Their ethos is another thing I have respect for. I can sleep safe in the knowledge I am supporting a company that is fighting to defend human rights and raise awareness for the environment. So much love for The Body Shop ahhh!
2. What are your favourite face, cheek and lip products?
Face – Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum has got to be my all time favourite base product. It creates such a flawless and dewy finish to my skin, which I absolutely love.
Cheek – I’m a cream blush kind of girl, and my favourite has got to be the Topshop cream blushers. They come in such vibrant shades that blend seamlessly into the skin.
Lip – It’s gotta be a toss up between the Revlon Lip Butters and the Revlon Matte/Lacquer balms. Give me any Revlon lip product and I’m happy!
3. Least favorite product?
I hate talking about disappointing products, but the worst one I have tried this year was the 17 three-way highlighter. No matter how little of the product I applied, I ended up looking like a complete shimmer ball. I don’t mind really dewy skin, but the glitter just gave a really artificial look that I’m not into. (I would say that 17 do have some amazing products though – so don’t judge the brand by this one disappointment).
4. What is the best makeup bargain?
I’ve always thought Barry M nail polishes are such a bargain, but if you wanna take the savings to a new level I’d recommend Sinful Colours nail polishes (which are sold at Boots). They come in an amazing array of shades and the formula is durable and long-lasting.
5. What is your favorite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)
A product I use as a brightening primer every single day is The Body Shop’s Vitamin C Skin Reviver. I haven’t actually heard anyone else rave about this product, but I am so addicted to it! Those of you who have dry and tired skin, slap some of this on after moisturising for a smooth base to apply makeup.
6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?
The only thing that springs to mind are my much loved Revlon Lip Butters. You really don’t get much product in the tube, and paying around £8 seems steep for a highstreet brand.
7. Show your best drugstore dupe(s)!!
A drugstore dupe I discovered myself (I was actually quite chuffed I found one all by myself) is 17’s lipstick in About the Sass, which looks exactly like MAC’s rebel! I find the formula of 17’s lipsticks really pigmented and long-lasting (but make sure you use a good lip-liner to prevent bleeding).
8. Drugstore product that isn’t worth the hype?
I’ve got to say that as much as I love the Rimmel Wake me Up foundation, I am not at all keen on the concealer. I have bad under-eye circles and the concealer is far to sheer for me! As my dark circles are one of my biggest insecurities, I don’t enjoy the shimmery particles in the concealer as I feel like they are just drawing more attention to my bags.
I hope you guys enjoyed this tag! I’d like to tag anyone who wants to give it a go 🙂 Make sure you post your responses in the comments. I’d love to hear what you guys think and get some good recommendations!
