Gel eyeliner. Two words that used to provoke so much fear in me I’d want to rock silently in a corner. It seems like the biggest faff ever to use a brush and little pot to apply eyeliner (and as a bit of a make-up newb I’m pretty terrible at using liquid liner in the first place). If someone had told me that I’d be using it as a part of my daily routine I wouldn’t have believed them.
Despite my initial concerns over gel liner, I have been completely converted. I have entered into a love affair with the Bobbi Brown Long-wear Gel Eyeliner and can safely say that nothing else in my stash quite compares.
I use the Real Techniques fine liner brush for application and it is literally easy as pie. The formula is really creamy, so it smoothly glides onto the eyelid without pulling or scratching.
I have the liner in the shade ‘Espresso Ink’, which is a deep brown colour. I love that the pigmentation is almost black, but not as intense. You can achieve really defined eyes that don’t look too harsh and overbearing. (Having said this, I now want to buy the liner in black, purple and blue so watch this space).
Those of you that are avid readers of my blog will know that I’m not one to push high end products. As a student, I try my hardest not to spend too much money on things I don’t need – but I have to say this doesn’t always happen haha! It may seem a bit steep to pay £18 for some eyeliner, but this little pot will literally last you forever. Unlike other gel formulas I’ve tried, it doesn’t dry out, so you don’t have to worry about the effectiveness deteriorating. (I even accidentally left the lid off mine for a day and it didn’t dry up).
The moment that I knew that this was a miracle product was a day where I had a 7am start and did my make-up at the crack of dawn. I was surprised that it was still in tact when I arrived home at around 5pm. I accidentally crashed asleep for a couple of hours and woke up expecting to look like an absolute mess. I can hand-on-heart say that my liner looked as crisp as it did when I first applied it in the morning!
For those of you looking for a new eyeliner, or are stuck in a bit of a rut with your eye make-up, I’d urge you to give this a try! If any of you know of any good highstreet/drugstore dupes for this more pricey option, I’d love for you to let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading guys and I hope you all have an amazing weekend 🙂
